HEAL Study
Thousands of Canadians are participating in the largest dietary intake and physical activity data collection effort ever conducted in Canada.
What is the HEAL study?
The HEAL study (HEALthy Eating and Supportive Environments), is a national research study - the largest of its kind in Canada – intended to collect information about diet and physical activity. HEAL is designed to collect detailed information about what people eat, how people move and how their surroundings support or limit what they eat and how they move.
The HEAL study is exploring:
- How dietary intake is shaped by the environment, including access to healthy foods within communities, provinces, and across Canada.
- How dietary intake and food environments, together, are connected with other factors like physical activity and how walkable neighbourhoods are.
To answer these questions, participants are asked to share information about what they eat and drink, as well as their activities at different times of the year, using different tools. This information can be used in the future by researchers to investigate how diet and daily activity are linked with health outcomes, including chronic diseases like cancer.
How can I be part of it?
HEAL is a sub-study of Healthy Future Sask (HFS), therefore, if you are a HFS participant you may be invited to participate in the HEAL study. Eligible HFS participants will receive an email inviting them to participate in the HEAL study.
